I have very little strength in my fingers & cannot squeeze the foam-type
plugs together enough to get them in my ears. When my wife does them, they
invariably go in too far. That causes pain & can mess up my ears. The
silicone type are very hard to manipulate to get a decent fit.

Does anyone know of any manufacturers of larger plugs that are easier to
manipulate?I can't sleep without them . Thanks.

Sorry don't know. I've always wanted to try ear plugs overnight but they
aren't comfortable. I'm thinking it may help eliminate the noise of my hubby
snoring but after 20 years i'm used to it now :)

Good luck info :)

I'm an NRA instructor, so I know a little bit about ear plugs. Personally, I
like the foam ones that you have to roll up, and there are some that are
softer than others and easier to roll up. When you insert them you should
grab the top of your ear and pull up which aligns the ear canal and makes
them easier to insert.

The silicone plugs are fairly easy to warm-up and insert, but most of them
should just be pressed against the outside of the ear canal. They work for
some people and not for others. You might also want to try the wax/cotton
ones that you warm up and press against the outside of the ear canal. They
are not as comfortable as the foam plugs but do a great job of silencing
noise.

You can try some shooting websites and look at earplugs there (cabellas.com,
midwayusa.com). They make inexpensive kits that allow you to make your own
custom earplugs. Cheap and worth a try. In shooting catalogs you'll find
all kinds of plugs you probably never thought about. Just make sure you
consider that you be lying down when you wear them, so you don't want
anything sticking out.

Finally, it might be worth it to bite the bullet and have some custom plugs
made for you at an audiologist. I had some plugs made for me at the range by
a distributor. They fit very well, but are not as quiet as the rollup foam
plugs. I use them at the range, but I also used them once for sleeping when
they were doing some construction next door. They cost me $100 and were
guaranteed 100% by the guy who fit them.. He made the mold and the parent
company sent him the finished product.

Also, with foam plugs you really have to clean your ears well so you're not
pushing wax back into your ear. That can cause some discomfort. With really
clean ears I've found that the plugs go in with little discomfort, and after
a few minutes they feel fine.
